Laptops are brilliant, but the one downside of laptops is that many of them don’t have a great battery life. You mightn’t think that you can do much to extend the amount of time that you get from your laptop’s battery life but there are actually plenty of things that you can do so you get some more internet browsing and so on from your laptop. Here are some easy ways that you can make your battery last longer:

Screen Brightness – Why not dim your screen? Most people think that the brighter the screen the better but this isn’t necessarily true since it can hurt your eyes from time to time. If your laptop is running on Windows then you’ll more than likely have a battery icon at the bottom of your screen on the right hand side. To dim you screen just right click this icon and then click on power options. You should see a brightness bar at the bottom of that window.

Programs – A lot of people leave programs running even when they don’t necessarily need to have them open. This can use up a lot of your laptop’s battery life so make sure that you close any program that you’re not using and you should notice that your battery life has improved.

Hibernate – A lot of laptops will go into standby mode if you don’t do anything on it for a while, but putting it into hibernate mode will save a lot more battery compared to standby mode.

Battery – Remember that your battery is just like you, it needs regular exercise. By this, we mean that you should charge it regularly and use it regularly. When it’s fully charged you should really use it within a week or two otherwise you could do some damage to the battery and a result of doing this your battery life will get worse.

CDs or DVDs – Try not to use CDs or DVDs since these eat up a lot of a laptop’s battery. Even though there are times when you’ll need to use CDs or DVDs, you’d be much better off using external hard drives or something similar since it won’t use as much battery.

External Devices – External devices such as a mouse and plugging in an external hard drive to your laptop will consume a decent bit of power. Obviously you’ll need to use your external hard drive sometimes when you want to backup some of your data or whatever, but there’s no need to leave it plugged in to your laptop when you’re not using it.

Hopefully these simple tips will help you get longer out of your battery life. Even if you can follow a few of these tips then you’ll notice a big difference in how long your battery lasts!
